The laws of the United States are clear – any lost item must be returned to the rightful owner. It is a citizens responsibility to make every effort to return it. If an item is not claimed through the police within a resonable time frame, then ownership goes to the finder. Easy one! I would give it back to Apple, because it`s a great commercial secret. For sure Apple would give me a 4th generation IPhone “thank you” when it comes to be released, and why not, some Mac in the pack..
Knowing how secretive Apple is about upcoming products and that it hasn`t been released yet, of course I`d return it to Apple. But I`d return ANY lost phone back to the owner, if I could find them.
First of all, I want the thing I will do to be legal 
I would return it, but while I was waiting for someone to pick it up, I would examine it and make notes. Make a mini-review of what I was able to see or use.
I`d call Apple right away to set up a way to get it back as safely and fast as possible. However, while I was waiting, I would HAVE to try it out a bit. Hopefully, I might be rewarded by Apple with one later on.
I`d have given it back, I don`t particularly like the idea of Apple using MobileMe to find me and sending the cops to my house.

I would try to sell it back to Apple, but they wouldn`t buy it back they would have their lawyers get it back. So in the end Apple would get it without my payday.
Most people on here say they would return it but why wouldn`t you sell it then buy it when it comes out. It sold for 2 million dollars…you can do a lot with that.

If I found it in a bar, I would try to return it to the person it belongs to, or bring it to the bartender, or bring it to the apple store. I would want someone to do the same for me. I would hope there are decent, law abiding citizen out there!?

I found one 2 years ago and located the owner. A year later, while at a pub, my iPod must have fallen under the table and wasn`t found until the next morning by the restaurant manager. She called me, returned and refused a reward. I guess it`s true what they say about good deeds…
