We need fossil fuel and if we can do it without harming the ecosystem too much then why not take advantage of our resources.
As long as it is in moderation and doesn`t cause any harm to marine life.
I think instead of off shore drilling and the risks that come with it, we should focus our time and money into developing renuable fuels that don`t depleate our resources.
Well with the recent explosion off of New Orleans and the polluting that could be compared to the exxon ship I`m even more against it
Let`s see import from terrorist countries that hate us or get our own oil. I will go with get our own oil.
I`m all for it, but the gas companies must pay for any clean up and not be able to deduct that cost from taxes as a business write off. It must come out of their profits. If a spill costs them real profit they will be inclined to do everything possible to prevent them.
We have no choice at this time. When better alternatives are available, I`m all for them.
Until there is a viable option keep on drilling. High energy cost hampers our economy.
Nothing is more American than good old igenuity. It`s time we explore ways of creating oil platforms that can immediately cap a spill in the instance there is a disaster, as has happened off Louisianna. At the same time, inventing realistic, renuable energy. It doesn`t have to be either/or…it can be both!
Im kinda against it. It does need to be sustained, but in smaller amounts of offshore drilling. We need to get very serious about alternative energies. We cant have people saying that is the “future” while not putting enough effort into that problem. We need alternative energy now, stop talking about it, and do it and get serious about making a full transition. However, until then, drilling is the way to go. (until we run out that is)

What is it?
What we need toxoid this: start a multihundred billion dollar project to line the Mohave desert with sun tracking solar panels. We should use tons of oil to sustain us in the meantime. But that might bot happen considering people are to scared to do something big.
For it.
Better than on land I suppose
Offshore drilling would take years before showing any affect, and even then it wouldn`t change the price of gas much or stop our dependency on mid east oil completely. If we really want to fix these problems we need to switch to electric cars and use alternative energy.
All for it
Not enough oil can be found to completely be independent from the Middle east so I agree renewable resources are a better option
It depends on the situation. Right now, I wouldn`t encourage it because it harms the environment, but I wouldn`t condemn it, either. We need the oil and the money in this day and age.

A hazard to marine life, birds, and humans. If it is done safely, then it is fine.

I was for it until the accident in louisinia happened
Someone wrote “If we do it without harming the enviroment” DUH! We JUST did harm the enviroment! And to this minute we are STILL harming the enviroment. So I guess you answered your own question
Someone wrote “we won`t give money to foreign companies if we drill our own oil” Well, the seafood is ruined in Gulf, so well end up buying seafood from foreign countries …. thus our money is leaving the country.
Oil drilled in US waters is sold to the highest bidder on the open market All Over The World. You are 100 wrong if you think oil drilled in the US stays in America. Please, please, if nothing else, realize that almost all of the oil drilled in the US is not used for US consumption ! ! !
Look at the gulf I`m not so sure it would be a “little” risk… It`s huge we are already in the process of finding alternatives they should invest more money in that and stop destroying everything!!!
Jaycers (the commentor before me) is obviously a Limbah-loving IDIOT. If it doesn`t damage the environment much, then why the hell are there tons to dead sea creatures being washed up on the shore La. due to the recent spill? I`m sure if Jaycers was one of the many fishermen in the states effected, he would think quite differently; or in that case, if he was one of the many who cared about our planet and the effects our decisions have on future generations.
